Each September, HOBY's selection process begins when the registration materials are sent to the 22,000 public and private high schools in the United States with endorsement by the National Association of Secondary School Principles (NASSP). All tenth graders are eligible for selection to attend the Seminar.
This year it will be held from June 18th-21st at Washington and Jefferson College. At least one sophomore leader should be selected by each school based on the following criteria: emerging leadership ability, ability to work well with others, desire for new pursuits, a willing to learn and share. Methods of selection could include writing an essay or simply selecting a notable student based on this criteria. This student then represents his/her school as a HOBY Ambassador at the PA-West leadership seminar.
What does HOBY cost?
HOBY asks the school to pay the $150 registration fee - THAT'S IT! Our organization covers the remaining $175 cost for each person to attend the seminar through our fundraising and sponsorships. If your school decides to select an additional ambassador, we ask the school to pay the $150 fee for the first student plus the total $325 for each additional student.
